Kibingo Station is a cherry collection and processing site in Burundi's northern Kayanza province. The site serves a few thousand small holder farmers planted in the 18 hills that surround it. Kibingo sits just under 1900 meters above sea level with many farmers planted much higher. Kibingo has been awarded top placement at the Burundi Cup of Excellence several times.
Farmers are planted in older Bourbon types that were originally introduced to the area in the 1930’s by Catholic monks traveling from the island of Reunion (formerly known as Bourbon). Bourbon is a varietal with excellent cup quality. French missionaries introduced Bourbon from Yemen to the island of Bourbon in the early-1700's. The varietal didn't leave the island for over a hundred years until missionaries started spreading it around starting in the mid-1800's.
