Finca Miravalles is a beautiful farm owned by the Duarte family. Miravalles is situated on the slopes of the Apaneca Ilamatepec mountain range in western El Salvador, not far from the Santa Ana volcano. Farm elevation is around 1500 meters above sea level. Luis Duarte and his son, Luis, manage the farm. They have a handful of varietals planted there, such as Bourbon, Tabi, Pacamara, Gesha, Sampacho, and Castillo.
The Duarte's own and operate three to four farms and process all their own coffee at a centralized mill where they also have their nursery. The prepare coffees using washed, honey, natural, and even experimental methods. This Castillo lot is a honey preparation.
Castillo is a cross between Caturra and Timor Hybrids. It was created to bring about a disease resistant varietal with a good flavor profile. It offers a quintessential sort of cup that is a great for espresso or an everyday drinker.
