Gesha 8 oz. bag

27.00

The Gesha varietal is highly coveted due to its unique cup character. Gesha coffees often display an elegance and floral intensity unlike anything else in Latin America and more akin to some Ethiopia coffees, yet, to be sure, these are very special coffees in their own right. The varietal has it origins in the Gesha area of south-west Ethiopia. From there seeds eventually made their way to an agricultural research center in Costa Rica. The varietal displayed rust resistant properties (a fungus that kills coffee plants) so around 1960 it was distributed to a few farms and planted intermixed with other varietals. Not much was thought of it until 2004 when Daniel Peterson of Hacienda Esmeralda in Panama separated it out and entered into the Best of Panama competition where it wowed and the lore of Gesha was off and running. The varietal expresses itself differently depending on location, soil, altitude, weather, etc. This lot from Acatenango, Guatemala displays the elegance and floral intensity which has become synonymous with the Gesha varietal.

This coffee is a light roast. Expect an elegant and complex cup with raw sugar sweetness, mouth cleansing acidity, and long aftertaste; flavors of jasmine, chamomile flower, bee pollen, lemony clementine citrus, raw sugar, tropical and stone fruit allusions.
